Oxygen Reservoir Kit for Uni-Vent 754

What does the Oxygen Reservoir kit for the Uni-Vent® 754 do ?

The Oxygen Reservoir kit for the Uni-Vent® 754 allows the clinician to deliver a greater range of oxygen concentrations to the patient when only a low pressure oxygen source for mechanical ventilation is available. The Uni-Vent® 754 is designed with an internal air/oxygen blender that gives users the ability to deliver oxygen concentrations ranging from 21% to 100% provided the ventilator is connected to a high pressure oxygen source. If the only oxygen source available is low pressure, the range of delivered concentrations of oxygen available to the patient will be limited. By attaching the Oxygen Reservoir Kit to the 754, you can oxygen-enrich the delivered gas and increase the range of oxygen concentrations while using a low pressure oxygen source. When using a low pressure source of O2 as the eagles primary source of oxygen, you must turn the ventilations FIO2 control knob to 21%.

How does the Oxygen Reservoir kit for the Uni-Vent® 754 work?

The Oxygen Reservoir kit is an adjustable piece of corrugated tubing that attaches to the compressors air inlet. The reservoir also contains a fitting for connecting a low pressure oxygen source.  With the low pressure oxygen source turned on, the corrugated tubing acts like a reservoir which allows the build up of a high concentration of oxygen. This set-up allows the compressor to draw gas from an oxygen-enriched environment which enables the ventilator to deliver higher concentrations of oxygen to the patient. When using a low O2 pressure source, the clinician will not be able to use the internal air/oxygen blender. Since the ability to control precise levels of delivered oxygen will be un-available when using a low pressure O2 source, Impact recommends that all patients be monitored via pulse-oximetry and that an oxygen analyzer is placed in the patients breathing circuit. Impact Instrumentation also recommends that the Reservoir Kit instructions be fully read before the Reservoir is used on a patient.
