STEMI Management Solutions Help Save Lives in Winnipeg

EMS Fire STEMIMarch 18, 2011 Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service and St. Boniface Hospital are making great strides in treating heart attacks in Manitoba, Canada’s capital city, using ZOLL's STEMI management solution. The technology allows them to “reopen arteries 20 minutes faster, on average, than the national standard. Last year Dan Herzog suffered a heart attack at his home, and his wife called an ambulance. The wireless technology allows paramedics to send an ECG snapshot to an on-call cardiologist using a Blackberry. They then can transport the patient directly to a cath lab, bypassing the ED.  AHA guidelines for STEMI patients recommend a door-to-balloon time of less than 90 minutes.
